# How to generate and use subtitles | SubLunio

Learn to choose audio tracks, preview subtitles, use SRT or ASS in your player, and process local videos with SubLunio Desktop.

From your first file to your first subtitle

Start in your browser, choose the dialogue track and preview the result before continuing.

## Choose the dialogue track

A video may include several audio tracks. Listen to a short sample and choose the language you want transcribed, not a commentary or music track.

## Watch the preview

The video preview starts at the first subtitle. If playback is unavailable or keeps stalling, the preview switches to subtitle text with timestamps. You can also choose text preview yourself.

## Load your subtitle file

Download SRT and place it next to your video with the same base name, or open it through your player’s subtitle menu. Choose ASS when you want styled bilingual lines.

## Generate subtitles in batches or burn them into your videos

The desktop app saves a processing queue on your computer. It extracts audio locally and uploads it for online transcription and translation. Each target language is a separate full generation and charge. The website provides the trial preview. Generate subtitles in batches on desktop. Export SRT, VTT or ASS subtitle files, or burn subtitles directly into your videos. Preview and adjust size, color and opacity before burning them in.

## A few things worth knowing

### Which languages does SubLunio support?

Choose from 118 subtitle target languages, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi and Indonesian.

### What does the free trial include?

A continuous 5-minute subtitle preview starting at the first subtitle, or the remaining video if it is shorter. No top-up is required. Generating the full subtitles is charged by the entire video duration.

### Can I burn subtitles into my video?

Yes. Download SubLunio Desktop to burn subtitles into your videos. Burning in subtitles requires re-encoding the video, which can be slow in a browser, so this feature is available in the desktop app. The burn-in process runs entirely on your computer, with no need to upload the video. Preview your subtitles and adjust their size, color and opacity before exporting. Burned-in subtitles become part of the video image and cannot be switched off.

### Will my video be uploaded?

No. Your browser or desktop app extracts audio locally. Only compressed audio is uploaded for transcription and translation. Server audio is removed after full transcription or within 24 hours unless an active payment extends that window.

### Can I use files larger than 2 GB?

Yes. The browser reads the video in chunks instead of loading the whole file into memory. Available local storage, audio codec support and the duration limits still apply: 3 hours as a guest and 8 hours when signed in.

### Do I need a subscription?

No. Complete subtitles cost $1 per video hour, rounded up to the nearest cent. Pay for one video or add USD credit. The minimum payment is $1.00; any extra becomes reusable balance.
