## Transport streams need timeline-aware handling

TS is commonly used for transport-stream recordings, including broadcast and other packet-based media. Such a file may begin at a nonzero timestamp and contain discontinuities, multiple programmes or more than one audio stream. Those features make it different from a simple finalized movie export with one continuous track.

SubLunio reads the local stream and preserves the audio’s relationship to the source timeline during conversion. It does not simply join all sound packets without regard to their positions. This matters because a correctly recognized sentence is still frustrating if its subtitle appears before or after the matching scene.

## Select the programme and dialogue you intend to follow

A transport-stream capture can contain audio for different languages or services. Inspect the available streams and listen to the one associated with the intended programme. Language tags, channel counts and default flags provide clues, but they may not fully describe a broadcast recording’s contents.

If your archive includes several unrelated programmes or has been assembled from fragments, consider preparing a complete, correctly timed working edition in your normal media workflow. Subtitle generation does not decide which television programme you meant based on the filename. It follows the audio stream you select and the duration of the supplied file.

## Check recordings around gaps and programme changes

Reception problems, recording pauses and concatenated segments can leave discontinuities. The audio conversion path accounts for timestamp gaps, but it cannot restore missing speech. Preview a representative exchange and, after full generation, inspect sections near any known interruption or programme boundary.

For files larger than 2 GB, seekable chunk reads avoid loading the complete transport stream into memory. Temporary MP3 storage and duration limits still apply. A large byte count does not automatically mean a long programme, because transport streams may contain high video bitrates or additional streams that are not part of the selected soundtrack.

## TS tests cover AAC and a separate Blu-ray LPCM fixture

The matrix includes a standard TS fixture with AAC audio and a separate M2TS-style transport-stream fixture with Blu-ray LPCM audio. Both preserve two known tone locations after extraction to mono MP3 in Chromium and Firefox. The second fixture exercises PCM stream signalling, rather than assuming all TS audio is AAC.

These short, controlled samples do not recreate every broadcast discontinuity, encrypted channel or concatenated recording. They establish the specific decoding paths shown in the report. Protected services are outside this workflow. For your own recording, compare the subtitle at several points against the exact file you selected, particularly when reception or recording history was irregular.

## Choose a language, then evaluate a preview

Select the file above, choose its speaking track and pick the language you want to read. SubLunio offers 110+ subtitle target languages. Source speech recognition has a separate supported list and defaults to Auto; setting the interface language does not limit your target choice. A brief listen can prevent a commentary or alternate dub from becoming the source of an otherwise well-timed translation.

The free web preview starts at the first subtitle and covers up to 5 continuous minutes. Compare the text with a clear line and a more difficult passage. You can start without an account, then sign in to retain the same valid task and continue with the audio already uploaded. A concise glossary can guide recurring names or specialist terms.

## Continue and save a portable subtitle

Full generation is priced at USD $1 per hour of the entire video, rounded up to a cent. The preview portion is included in that full duration. Use account credit or pay for the task; card payments have a $1.00 minimum and unused credit remains available. The price is based on duration rather than the original video file size.

Download SRT, VTT or ASS, choosing translated, original or bilingual text. Keep the subtitle beside the exact source edition and test dialogue at several points. The video stays local throughout extraction; server audio is temporary. Save your own subtitle copy and process only material you have the necessary rights to use. Automatic results still need review for names, meaning and timing.

Actual TS extraction check: aac audio → MP3. Synthetic tones; this does not measure transcription quality.

## Why can TS recordings begin at a nonzero timestamp?

Transport streams carry packet timestamps that do not necessarily start at zero in the saved file.

## Will subtitle generation choose the right programme in a multi-service TS automatically?

Inspect and select the intended audio stream; the filename alone cannot establish which programme you meant.

## Is Blu-ray LPCM included in the TS extraction checks?

A separate M2TS-style fixture exercises Blu-ray LPCM signalling and extraction.

## Does a very large TS file always contain more hours of speech?

No. High video bitrate and extra streams can increase file size without increasing the selected programme’s duration.
