# Generate WebVTT subtitles in 110+ languages

Create a VTT subtitle track from your video’s speech, with translation into 110+ target languages. Preview the text, finish the task and export WebVTT for a compatible website, player or publishing workflow.

## Start with the requirements of your web player

WebVTT is a text-based timed track format used in web media workflows. If your site, learning platform or publishing tool asks for a .vtt file, choose VTT when downloading the completed subtitle. The file includes a WEBVTT header and timed cues. Renaming an SRT extension to .vtt does not convert the internal structure, so use the proper export rather than changing the label.

The receiving platform determines how the file is connected to the video and which visual options are honored. Some systems provide a subtitle upload field, while a custom website may use a media track element. Check the documentation of the actual publishing tool and try a short sample. A valid subtitle still needs to be associated with the correct media asset.

## Generate text from a local source without publishing the movie

SubLunio starts from a video on your own computer. The browser checks the streams, lets you choose the audio and extracts a compressed MP3 locally. Only that audio is uploaded for processing; selecting a video does not publish a watchable copy of it. Chunked reading supports files larger than 2 GB within available storage, codec and duration limits.

Before extraction, identify whether you want the main soundtrack, a dub or a direct microphone recording. This matters for a course recording with several audio sources and for a film with multiple languages. If browser playback is unavailable or unstable, a text preview with the original timestamps lets you review the subtitles. Check audio and video synchronization in a local player that supports your original file.

## Choose the language your audience will read

The subtitle target menu supports 110+ languages, separate from the website interface and the source speech menu. For an English lesson intended for Spanish-speaking learners, choose Spanish as the target. Auto can detect a supported source language, or you can select the known spoken language explicitly. Do not interpret the target list as a promise of equal recognition performance across all possible recordings.

Use the preview to check terminology that affects understanding. Course titles, technical names and abbreviations can benefit from glossary guidance entered before generation. A bilingual variant may be helpful for reviewing the translation, even if the public course ultimately uses a single translated track. Keep the delivery choice focused on what the viewer needs to follow the material.

## Export and connect the VTT to the matching video

After full processing, choose VTT and the original, translated or bilingual variant. Keep the file associated with the exact recording used to generate it. If you trim the introduction, insert a bumper or remove a section later, the timestamps may no longer align. Update the subtitle alongside the edit instead of assuming the same track can accompany every version of the video.

For a custom website, give the track an accurate language and readable label. Check that the browser can fetch it from its final URL and that any cross-origin configuration is correct. Avoid placing private task identifiers or restricted download links into a public page. Download the file you are entitled to publish, then upload that deliverable through your own controlled publishing workflow.

## Test readability and controls in the final browser

Open the finished page on the browsers and screen sizes your audience actually uses. Turn the subtitle on and off, seek to several points and check fullscreen playback. Make sure a previously selected track is not masking the new one. Test accented characters, punctuation and any right-to-left script in the real player rather than relying only on a text editor view.

For bilingual output, two languages can take up more space than the platform’s default caption layout expects. Check whether the player preserves line breaks and whether text remains readable over a bright scene. If the application enforces its own caption styling, accept that constraint or adjust the delivery plan. The export cannot override every player’s rendering policy.

## Include review in the publishing process

A completed task is priced at USD $1 per hour of the full video duration, rounded up to a cent. The web preview is reused when you continue. You can export VTT and keep an SRT or ASS version for another compatible workflow without retranscribing the same task. Additional target languages are separate generation tasks and should be included in your delivery estimate.

Before making the track public, review names, specialist statements and any missing speaker or sound descriptions. Dialogue subtitles are not automatically a complete accessibility caption set. Keep the original downloaded text and a checked delivery version so later corrections are traceable. Publish only content and translations you have permission to distribute, using the hosting platform’s own privacy and access controls.

## Can I create VTT simply by renaming an SRT file?

No. WebVTT has its own header and timestamp rules. Choose the VTT export from the completed task.

## Will the VTT automatically appear on my website?

No. Upload and attach it using the publishing platform or player’s supported subtitle workflow.

## Should a VTT for an edited clip use the full movie’s timestamps?

Only if the timeline still matches. Trimming or inserting material usually requires corresponding subtitle retiming or generation from the final clip.

## Does the browser preview guarantee identical styling on my learning platform?

No. The destination player controls rendering, so test line breaks, size, script display and fullscreen behavior there.
