Separate a MOV container from its large picture stream
MOV files are common in camera and editing workflows, but the extension does not imply one fixed soundtrack format. A recording can combine a large video stream with relatively simple audio. Subtitle generation needs to read the speaking audio, so it does not require uploading the high-resolution picture to the server.
Choose the final MOV export you intend to use. If an editor later removes an introduction or changes the cut, its previous subtitle timing may no longer fit. Keep the source version clearly named, especially when a project folder contains camera originals, proxies and several exports of the same scene.
PCM and ALAC need different handling from compressed movie audio
A MOV soundtrack may use uncompressed PCM or lossless ALAC. These tracks can be much larger than a low-bitrate delivery soundtrack, even when the recording is short. SubLunio decodes the selected audio locally and writes a compact MP3 for upload, reducing the amount of data sent for recognition.
Lossless input is useful source material, but it does not guarantee perfect subtitles. Microphone placement, clipping, room noise and overlapping voices still affect the words that can be recognized. Keep the original MOV as your master. The temporary MP3 is a processing copy for transcription, not a replacement production soundtrack for your editing project.
Camera channels are not always a finished mix
Some production recordings separate microphones into channels or streams. One track might contain the presenter and another a room microphone. Listen before selecting the source, particularly if you need both a speaker and audience questions. A track with technically valid audio may still contain the wrong voice for your intended subtitle.
If a production needs a deliberately balanced mix of separate recordings, prepare that mix in the editor first. SubLunio does not reconstruct a missing microphone feed from the image. Generating from the final synchronized export also avoids transferring subtitles made for a camera clip onto an edited timeline with different start points.
MOV tests cover PCM and a separate ALAC case
Our original fixture matrix includes a MOV file with PCM s16le audio and a separate MOV with ALAC audio. Each contains two timed tones that are decoded to MP3 and checked against their expected positions. Both combinations passed in Chromium and Firefox using the published browser media build.
The checks establish local soundtrack extraction and timing for those fixtures. They do not certify every professional camera codec or guarantee native browser playback of the picture. When the browser cannot display the video, read the subtitle text preview with its original video timestamps, then load the downloaded file into your usual editor or player for a final visual check.
Choose a language, then evaluate a preview
Select the file above, choose its speaking track and pick the language you want to read. SubLunio offers 110+ subtitle target languages. Source speech recognition has a separate supported list and defaults to Auto; setting the interface language does not limit your target choice. A brief listen can prevent a commentary or alternate dub from becoming the source of an otherwise well-timed translation.
The free web preview starts at the first subtitle and covers up to 5 continuous minutes. Compare the text with a clear line and a more difficult passage. You can start without an account, then sign in to retain the same valid task and continue with the audio already uploaded. A concise glossary can guide recurring names or specialist terms.
Continue and save a portable subtitle
Full generation is priced at USD $1 per hour of the entire video, rounded up to a cent. The preview portion is included in that full duration. Use account credit or pay for the task; card payments have a $1.00 minimum and unused credit remains available. The price is based on duration rather than the original video file size.
Download SRT, VTT or ASS, choosing translated, original or bilingual text. Keep the subtitle beside the exact source edition and test dialogue at several points. The video stays local throughout extraction; server audio is temporary. Save your own subtitle copy and process only material you have the necessary rights to use. Automatic results still need review for names, meaning and timing.
A few things worth knowing
Can MOV audio use ALAC instead of AAC?
Yes. The published extraction matrix includes a separate ALAC-in-MOV fixture.
Does the uploaded MP3 replace my original MOV soundtrack?
No. It is a temporary transcription copy; the original MOV remains unchanged.
Should I generate MOV subtitles before editing camera clips together?
Generate from the final synchronized edition when you need subtitles for that edited timeline.
Which MOV microphone track should supply a lecture subtitle?
Choose the track or prepared mix containing the voices you need, after listening to the available options.
